An early look at Gold Glove celebrations

Darwin Barney‘s errorless streak and his Gold Glove season was one of the few highlights of 2012. While Barney gears up for another Gold Glove campaign (and Starlin Castro saying he wants to join him), I’m looking forward to some of the celebrations that accompany his 2012 success.

For starters, the first 10,000 fans to show up on April 13th against the San Francisco Giants will receive a replica Gold Glove award. I wrote last May about how cool Scott Rolen‘s glove giveaway was, and my family and I have decided that April 13th will be our first trip to Wrigley Field of the season. I’m looking forward to it.

As for the presentation of Barney’s actual Gold Glove, I remember reading the date somewhere online but cannot for the life of me remember or find it right now. Chicago Cubs Online transcribed an interview which posed an interesting idea. The suggestion was to wait until late in the season when Ryne Sandberg and the Philadelphia Phillies are in town to present the award. Personally, I think they should wait until the Cincinnati Reds visit on May 3rd just to stick it to probable jerk Brandon Phillips.

UPDATE: Siri is a much better searcher than I am. I have discovered that April 13th is in fact the day Barney will get his award. Nice! Thanks Josh.
